Meet Virginia.
Meet Virginia. No, not the Train song, although that song’s been playing in my head a lot lately, likely since we’re going to see Train tonight in Auburn after we go to the Storm game this afternoon. What a fun day for us! But, I digress.
I want to introduce you to Virginia, who was on our 8/16 Seattle Storm/Rough & Tumble Fan Bus. We had a wonderfully diverse group of people with lots of cool stories, including several people who had never been to a Storm game before. But Virginia’s story, particularly, is a great example of my “why” for starting FemmePower Adventures.
Virginia grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a life-long LSU Tigers fan. She said her dad frequently took her to football and (men’s) basketball games, and her mom would sometimes join them. They didn’t go to women’s games back then, but she has since become a women’s basketball fan and has followed the LSU women closely for years.
This year, the Seattle Storm made a draft-day trade for Flau’jae Johnson, who had a great college career at LSU. Virginia was so excited to hear Flau’jae was coming to Seattle. She had never been to a Storm game before, but she really wanted to see her in person, so she joined our Fan Bus and got to have the live Storm game experience and see one of her favorite college players now playing in the W (who is a really fun-to-watch, dynamic player - so glad she's with the Storm). Virginia was so excited – she had a big smile for the entire game. I’m really glad we got share that experience with her.
Virginia’s story is just one example of how attending live women’s sports can be a really special, memorable experience. Thanks to everyone who came with us – y’all made it a memorable day, the first of many more to come!
