YOU belong on our Fan Bus!
Let me introduce you to Kathy and Beth, two friends who joined Kris and I for a Seattle Storm game last August and are now legit fans joining us on our 8/16 Storm/Rough & Tumble Fan Bus adventure. Watching Kathy and Beth experience their first Seattle Storm game and come away excited to attend another – that is a payday for me. Sharing my love for the team, sport, and experience is my “why” in creating FemmePower Adventures.
One of my friends saw our website and asked me if our events were intended only for the LGBTQ+ community. We love our vibrant south sound queer community, and we enthusiastically welcome its members on our fan buses.
AND
The only label that applies to our desired participants is inclusive. We want sports fans! We want people new to sports who’ve never been to a women’s sports event and are curious what all the fuss is about. We want lifelong sports fans who want to participate in the positive, inclusive community surrounding women’s sports. Everyone is welcome!
Attending a women’s sports event is a different vibe, y’all! I’m telling you. I enjoy going to the occasional Mariners or Rainiers game; it is fun to go to our friends’ house and watch the Seahawks with diehard fans; and I loved watching the men's World Cup this summer. But the women’s sports community, the feeling you get at a live women’s game hits differently. You won’t know until you’ve experienced it.
Back to Kathy and Beth.
Kathy and Beth are two dear friends Kris and I met four years ago when we happened upon their weekly ladies golf group in Port Orchard. It was June 2022, just two weeks after landing in Bellingham, WA off the Alaska ferry from Juneau. We were living in our bare Gig Harbor rental with only our dog, two cats, and the contents of our old Toyota pickup. We decided it was too rainy to actually golf (we’d become fair-weather golfers after just two weeks as Washington residents), so we picked a random golf course on Google Maps and went to the driving range. On that fortuitous Thursday morning, we met a weekly ladies golf group who was preparing to venture out for their regular nine holes – rain or shine. They invited us to join their group, so we started golfing with them, and Kathy and Beth are two of the many awesome people we have become friends with through that chance encounter.
Fast forward to last year. We asked our golf group if anyone wanted to join us for a Seattle Storm game. Kathy and Beth said yes and had such a good time, they wanted to come back for more this summer. They’ve already attended at least one other Storm game this year, and they are both joining us for our 8/16 fan bus, with Beth bringing her husband. Woo hoo!
We have no target demographic for these events – on purpose. I want multigenerational, including young, hip (do people still use that word?) people, retirees, and everyone in-between. The more diverse the better! Besides our participants who are already fans, there are lots of people who just don’t realize what a great experience it is until they go for the first time. I want more people to feel the joy I feel every time I go.
