Liselotte (FPA’s COO – Chief Organization Officer) and I attended the Greater Seattle Business Association’s Economic Development Conference last week. We got to hear from some of Seattle’s political leaders as well as people with useful expertise and advice for small businesses.

I especially enjoyed the session on networking. I used to groan and roll my eyes when I mention going to a networking event (OK, sometimes I still do), but I've figured out that it is essential as I integrate myself and my business into a new community. Really, I've found that I enjoy these opportunities as long as I feel like I am able to genuinely connect with at least one person. How to do that? Authenticity! If I ever have the pleasure of meeting you at a networking event, I will try to avoid small talk like the plague and talk about something real.

Appreciated all the speakers and the event sponsors! And, I'll work on not cutting off chins and other important parts of the face in future selfies.
